Bangkok, Dec 2 — Black Mountain, Thailand’s number one golf course for the past three years in a row, will host the fourth edition of the King’s Cup, an Asian Tour event, in January 2014.
The $US1 million tournament, from January 16-19, will be the third tournament staged at the Hua Hin championship layout since it opened in 2007. The previous events were the Black Mountain Masters in 2009 and Royal Trophy in 2010.
Black Mountain’s stature as one of Asia’s great golf courses will be enhanced by television coverage of all four rounds on the Asian Tour’s global platform that reaches 640 million homes in 180 countries.
The King’s Cup was first held in 2009 and repeated in 2010 and 2012. The 2011 event was cancelled due to widespread flooding in Thailand.
Black Mountain’s general manager, Harald Elisson, said the club was delighted to host another world-class Asian Tour tournament.
“We look forward to welcoming the best players from the Asian Tour for the King’s Cup. I am sure it will be a very exciting golf tournament for golf fans in Hua Hin and television viewers around the world and we will endeavour to prepare our championship course so that a worthy champion will emerge.”
Black Mountain is a member of Golf In A Kingdom (www.golfinakingdom.com), a collection of Thailand’s best golf courses, hotels and resorts that has played a major part in Thailand becoming the world’s third biggest inbound golf tourism destination.
